DFW Trip: Friday

Flew into DFW airport in Texas. Talked to a rep from HALE about his fire engine pumps along the way, and how selling their product has helped him to travel all around the US. Then we discussed the more hairy plane landings we’ve been on and both agreed that we’ve had more scary incidents at Midway airport than any other airport, although Newark came up. And as you know from prior posts I love sunrises, so I felt I needed to post the one above. That hill that looks like an island is actually Rancho Palos Verdes.
Brian met me at the airport and we met up with my friend Geri at her work. We had a nice lunch, although I’m not sure if Brian is into seafood. Geri had the lobster sliders while I had the Sole and Sushi. We split the Calamari, which was probably the best version of it I’ve tried. Instead of a traditional American batter, they used a rice flour Tempura batter instead. It made quite a bit of difference as the final flavor wasn’t heavy and greasy like I’m used to, it was light and tasty. I think they also mixed in a little sage as well. Good stuff.
From there we met up with Geri’s beau, Ryan. We started out our night at a very eclectic bar called Grapevine. It’s about as mixed crowd as the bars in LA, you’ll find a mix of a gay and straight crowd with a few trannies thrown in. Geri and Ryan were friends with the owners, so we hung out until they wanted to leave. We met up with them a little later at an area of town that reminded me of Broad Ripple in Indianapolis, called Lower Greenville. It’s basically a collection of bars and diners.
We hit a couple of bars while down there and ended up snacking on sliders and some potato skins before heading out a biker bar that sort of reminded me of the VFW in Cammack, IN. It was a bit odd, but I know how to work those crowds. Before I knew it I was a member of their bar, and everyone was having a great time.
Then we came back to the house, the women passed out, and Ryan I had a few more beers then snapped a few photos of the passed out women. I guess they’ll come in handy if either run for office in the future. I finally decided to try that sleep thing, and was out within seconds.
