GOALS!!!
We now have some new online software we are supposed to work with to complete our goals for the next months. These are supposed to be work related goals, that also are related to helping the company achieve it’s stated goals for the same period. I guess that this all comes into play in six months when they evaluate us for the year end. I’m pretty sure it won’t mean a raise or promotion, because no amount of hard work here ever leads to that.
Anyway, they have this e-learning course that you need to complete before you can begin setting up your goals. It’s supposed to take about an hour, but with interruptions from clients and coworkers plus re-reading, it takes about an hour and a half. The re-reading is only because the course material is so boring and monotonous that your brain will turn off after every so many pages. Due to what I do, I also have a tendency to read looking for errors
Once this is complete, you can enter your goals. They need to be specific, career focused, and agree with your boss’ goals as well as the goals of the company. And even though your job may not apply to many of the areas of focus the company has, you have to find something that does fit. That’s the real challenge, as my job has nothing to do with new artists, but somehow I have to establish a goal with my job that does. It’s just another way this company tries to lump everyone into piles, regardless of how illogical that may be.
I don’t really have a problem setting goals, if that’s what they want, but I’m not sure how I’m supposed to establish a goal for me in an area that my job can never touch based on how we are laid out. I guess I can set a goal, that I’ll fail, because there are no lines within the company for me to reach the goal. Who knows? Also, when so many of us are slammed because the company has whittled down staff so far, I’m not sure if they expect this to be our homework, or if we are supposed to shelf some key project while we stop to work on goals.
I just wish they’d spend more time on making our jobs more efficient, and less on figuring out ways to slow us down.
