Summer Vacation?

Questions from Hair Metal Queen’s 3X Thursday.

1. Did you get any type of vacation in this summer? If so, what did you do? If not, why not?

Not really, but I tried. I took two days off while trying to recover from Bronchitis and went out to Oxnard to a friend’s house on the beach. Taking two days off right before a weekend should have given me four days off, but instead, I ended up working all four days. So while I did get away from LA for a few days, it wasn’t really a vacation.

2. If you could take the summer off (Say, June 1 – September 1), what would you do with that time

Depends on my cash situation. If I could afford to travel I would. But more than likely I’d be losing my mind to boredom due to a lack of any cash to go anywhere.

3. Is there anything resembling a ’summer vacation’ anymore? Why/why not?

For the working masses, not really. Every company I’ve heard about lately is downsizing. I know my coworkers and I have had to pick up quite a bit of slack due to a downsizing last year. They still try to take vacations, but usually all end up working while gone. And whenever I’ve taken any time off, I’ve ended up either working free overtime (I’m salaried) when I get back to make up for no coverage while off, or I work while off. And there doesn’t seem to be any end to it in sight.
