UPS Brown

What has Brown done to you?

Well, yesterday Brown delivered a packaging originating within Los Angeles to me. So it’s the only time you’ll ever see UPS Ground have an overnight turn. Anyway, UPS seems to have stopped delivering all packages to the manager, and instead have done all sorts of things to get them to our front doors. Yesterday’s was probably one of the worst.

I checked tracking while at work, because I’m really waiting on that half terabyte external drive. I have some archiving to do. Anyway, the tracking says “LEF WIT BOY.” So I call UPS and ask them what it means. They look up my tracking number and tell me that since I wasn’t home when they attempted to delivery the package they left it with my son.

Now I know I’ve done a lot of drinking back in the day, and I’m missing huge chunks of time, but I don’t remember ever having a child. So you can imagine my response to the CSR. He laughed. I didn’t. I then asked why they’d give my package to someone that wasn’t me, or wasn’t the manager of the property. They said that it’s just how they do things. Bullshit.

So I make a few calls and have someone check around the building for it. Luckily, it turned up, and my new external drive was moved to the manager’s office awaiting my return home. What’d happened if it wasn’t there? Well I’d have to make a claim with the company I bought from and they’d have to file a complaint with UPS, who would probably deny their claim and end up giving me $2 or something, instead of the $140 I’d been out.

I only use their next day air service at work, and even there they are messing up. I’m noticing that most of our next day air packages are taking 2-3 days to arrive. So we always bitch, and always get credited back. But we’re shipping time critical things. So really we’re out quite a bit of money when UPS makes us miss ship dates, of which we’ll only be refunded some $23 shipping charge.

I’m not sure why they are failing so much lately, but it doesn’t seem like they care to fix the problem anytime soon.
