The Dude

I miss this place.

Not sure if I ever posted the above pic, so here it is today. I used to be able to go down here for some cheap bowling. If need be, it was walking distance from the apartment. It was open 24 hours a day all the way up until the city closed it. Why did they close it? Well they needed a large plot of land for a school that served the area, and it was the largest connected plot of land available, so they used imminent domain and bought it from the owners and closed it.

I remember once it was knocked down the wall, seen on the left side of the carport in the image above, was left standing. Some local artist, and I’d guess it’s the Street Phantom, painted an fallen angel on the wall. It stayed up for weeks, and I wish I’d gotten a photo before they finally tore it down.

Regardless, it’s probably best known worldwide as the bowling alley in The Big Lebowski.
