Friends
Again, we’ve started growing apart.
And again, a lot of this is distance, and busier adult lives. But I rarely hear from those friends that still live in Los Angeles. Granted this is one of the largest metro areas in the world, but across town really isn’t much farther than a phone call. But that just doesn’t even seem to happen anymore.
Sometimes I wonder if there’s something I’ve done, aside from moving to Los Angeles, but then again, when I do re-connect, I find it’s mostly they’ve gone through the same thing. So busy with work, spouses, kids, or something else that they’ve also lost touch with pretty much everyone they once knew.
So I wonder how much of this lack of communication is just part of getting older, and how much of it can be attributed to advancements in technology and non-personal interaction, or possibly we’re all just working so much more because unlike our parents, we can’t afford to live on one salary. Or in my case, can’t afford to own pretty much anything on one salary.
All this extra responsibility and drive to make money just so that we can afford to live comes at the cost of losing all of our friends and family. To one day reconnect with only when another mutual friend comes to town, or after a comment on their status on Facebook.
